In looking towards our tomorrow, the King Arts Complex has created a 2009/2010 magnificent season full of change --- stellar events and incredible activities and special events such as the annual Legends & Legacies program. 2009 honorees were: Dr. Lerone Bennett Jr., American scholar, prolific author, social historian and served as the executive editor of Ebony magazine for almost fifty years. Dr. Samella Lewis, Artist, author, and former educator. Dr. Johnnetta B. Cole, American Academic, first female president of Spelman College and former president of Bennett College. Presently she serves as director of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African Art.; the annual M.L.K. Community Open House featuring Sonia Sanchez; and, the fun-filled Anniversary Gala.

The Cultural Arts programs range from the opening exhibition of nationally renowned artist Xenobia Bailey to a multidisciplinary series celebrating the birthday of Bob Marley and the Men, Music, Message & the Movement through film, performance, discussion and exhibition. The line-up of performances in our Jazz on the Avenue series will stir the spirit, rock the soul and change the tempo by featuring Amiri Baraka & Rene McLean mixing poetry and jazz and Columbus' own Bobby Floyd. Change always comes bearing gifts. But change doesn't stop there!
